| EAGLE -- Fred Poisson, patrol leader and bugler for Troop 9 was presented the Eagle award, the highest a Boy Scout can achieve by Judge L. J. Phipps at a Court of Honor last week. Fred was presented seven merit badges. At left are Fred s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred D. Poisson. |
Troop 9 Holds Honor CourtFred also received merit badges for life saving, soil and water conservation, camping, citizenship in the community, nature, pioneering and bugling. The Eagle Award was presented by Judge L. J. Phipps of Chapel Hill in the presence of Fred's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred D Poisson of Flint St. Judge Phipps also recognized advancements in rank for 11 other members of Troop 9. John Benson, Johnny Lindahl and Larry Wolslagel were advanced to Life Scout. New Star Scouts are George Coxhead and Frank Alexander. Awarded First Class pins were Carl Cochran and Tor Tosteson. And advanced to Second Class were Bobby Durham, Larry Lindahl, John Hawkins and David Poisson. Fifty merit badges were awarded during the ceremonies by Dr. Warner Wells. In addition to Fred Poisson, merit badge recipients were: Frank Alexander, first aid, firemanship, reading and life saving; Johnny Lindahl, cooking, safety, pets and art; John Benson, life saving, cooking and nature; Skipper Via, public speaking and scholarship; Larry Wolslagel. nature and first aid; George Coxhead, first aid and cooking; Bruce Filley, swimming and first aid; Landon Scism, first aid and motorboating: Steve Scroggs, life saving; Fred Mattis, art, and Bill Donnan, cooking. First aid merit badges were presented to John Hawkins. Larry Lindahl, Trey Mainwaring, Mark Vandiviere, Billy Barnes, Tor Tosteson. George Scheer, Shan Courtney. Lee Morrison, David Hale, Burt Cole, Bill Harvel, Mark Biggs, Carl Cochran, Jeep Gaskin, David Poisson, Dale Evarts and Rickie Roseman. Dr. Wells was given a certificate and troop neckerchief for conducting a four week first aid course for the troop leading to merit badges for 23 members. Similar recognition was accorded Assistant Scoutmaster Scott Bradley for his work with the troop. Scott is leaving Chapel Hill to continue his education abroad. |
