The trip is an overnight campout at the Boy Scout W.D. Campbell Scout Reservation on Kerr Lake near Presbyterian Point. The day activities will include swimming, work on Canoeing merit badge, introduction to lake and portage canoeing for next summer's expedition to Northern Tier Canoe Base and other Scout skills.
Boys with lifesaving skills will be acting as lifeguards and lookouts. Anybody who has not passed a BSA camp swim test must be cleared by the Scoutmaster before swimming. All swimmers will be buddied up. For the Canoeing merit badge, there needs to be at least two canoes with four Class 2 or 3 PFDs. A third canoe, kayak or rowboat (and PFD's) would be desireable for the instructor and spotter. All boys and adults will wear PFDs while in the canoe. Only boys with BSA swimmer will be allowed in canoes. One of the boys has to have Canoeing merit badge, except while working on the merit badge. Boys without BSA swimmer may canoe with an adult with canoeing expertise.
