Camp Durant

Description
Summer camp will be a week at the Occoneechee Councilís Camp Durant near
Carthage, NC. Program includes merit badge classes in the aquatics, ecology,
conservation, handicrafts, scoutcraft, shooting sports, and health groups,
as well as basic scouting work in Tenderfoot through First Class. Camping
is done in platform mounted wall tents. Food is provided in the camp dining
hall. The camp fee is $135 for the week with the troop.
Registration
A $50 registration fee is due by 1 March. The remaining $85 of the registration
fee is due by 1 May. Some classes have a $10 to $20 materials fee;
e.g., basketry, leatherwork, photography, etc.
Medical Form
A scout medical form is needed with parentís section current within twelve
months and physicianís section current within thirty-six months. Please
turn in the form with the 1 May fee. Please keep the original and submit
a copy.
Parents at Camp
We will have three adults in camp all week from Sunday evening through
Saturday morning. Parents are welcome to come and help out anytime during
the week. Wednesday and Friday evenings have campfires as entertainment
for the whole camp and visitors. Let the Scoutmaster know when parents
may be coming so that we can coordinate our efforts.
Travel Schedule and Transportation
Departure to camp will be Sunday at 12 noon from the University Mall parking
lot next to Carolina Central Bank. Departure for home will be Saturday
morning between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. Check with 967-8963, for actual departure
time and estimated return time. Return will be to the Chapel of the Cross.
Take US15 then NC 24 through Carthage. From 1.3 miles west of the courthouse
in Carthage turn left onto Bethlehem Church Road, SR1261 with a sign for
the Scout camp. Go 7.2 miles to stop sign crossing with SR1210 and begin
to watch for Camp Durant 1.4 miles on left.

coverage is spotty, so leave a message if there is no answer. The voice
