Eagle Project
The project I plan to do, if approved, would be to make the third and
final leg of a larger trail loop around the local public library, in
what is known as Pritchard Park. A description of the park is located
on page 10 in the Park Planning Report, which is Attachment 2. In that
same report, Attachments C and D are maps of the park and library, with
and without the trails and additions. The section that I plan to do is
highlighted orange. The cove is a pleasant area, with little in terms
of difficult hiking/terrain. There are two dried-up creek beds that
need to have small walkways built over them. Those walkways are my
responsibility.
When I complete my project, the group will benefit in many ways.
1. Their conceptual plan of the trail in the park will be completed
2. Local people will be able to walk to the library easier, increasing
the number of people that have access without adding more parking.
3. There will be a trail system so that people in the community can get
out and exercise or have a pleasant walk without worrying about cars.
Before, Deciduous Woods

Present Conditions:
1) Woody area, overgrown with thorns and brush
2) Covered in litter from library and nearby apartment complex
3) Most trees are relatively young but there are more mature trees
scattered around
4) Relatively flat with a slight slant (see Attachment D of the report
located in Attachment 2)
5) Attachment C of the Report shows all the present conditions of the
land (Report located in Attachment 2)
Method
The trail will be marked off with orange surveyors tape. After that,
the trail will be cleared of brush and debris, and leaves as well as
rocks will be moved off. After that, large sticks from the woods will
be placed on both sides of the trail so that the edges will be easily
identifiable. There are two dried creek beds that will need bridges
built over them. The plans for these bridges are included in Attachment
1.

NOTE: Work will be done in 2-hour blocks on one day during the weekend,
most likely Sunday, unless any conflict arises in the near future.
SAFETY HAZARDS (and how to prevent them)
There are many safety hazards that arise from the use of tools.
Injuries from the axe/saw or rake are all quite possible. Also, the
woods pose even more potential hazards. A worker could trip and fall or
be injured by falling trees.
In order to reduce these risks, the following measures will be taken.
1) Before each work session, I will give a brief safety course on the
use of tools and working in a woody environment.
2) Volunteers will be paired with a buddy at all times so if one is
injured the others can help the victims arid also seek medical
attention.
3) A first-aid kit, as well as a doctor (My mother, a licensed MD) will
be on site at all times.
4) A minimum of 3 adults will be on hand to supervise and manage all
potential hazards.
NOTE: There are several guidelines that the city has laid out for me in
the construction of my trail. They can be found on attachment B of the
report located in Attachment 2.
