Eagle Project
PROJECT DESCRIPTION Concept
Describe the project you plan to do.
I plan to clear brush, stumps, vines, and small trees from three proposed
sights for benches I am making out of logs for a nature trail at Frank
Porter Graham Elementary School.
What group will it benefit?
Frank Porter Graham Elementary School, Highway 54 by-pass and Smith
Level Road
My project will be of benefit to the group because:
The project will be of benefit to the children that are walking on the
trail. They will find a cleared place to rest and look at nature.
The project concept was discussed with Tom Crumbaugh, Principal
of Frank Porter Graham Elementary School, 942-6491
May 16,1993
PLANNING DETAILS
Plan your work by describing the present condition, the method,
materials to be used, project helpers, and a time schedule for carrying
out.
On May 16,1993 the three sites for my benches were inaccessible. My
plans are to clear the three sites of brush, small trees, and plants,
then I will work to find logs for the benches. Once I have found the
logs I will have them cut to size and then in half. I will then proceed
to build my benches. I will work every weekend until my project is
done. My plan is to have them done by June 30, 1993.
CARRYING OUT THE PROJECT
Keep a record and make notes as your project progresses Include dates
worked, those assisting you and their time spent, and the materials
(type and cost), if used.
Dates of actual project work
5-13-93 9:30-10:30 My Mom and I visited Mr. Crumbaugh with my project
proposal. He then sent me to see Livy Luddington who suggested the
project to build benches for the Frank Porter Graham nature trail.
5-16-93 1:30-7:30 I went with my Dad to Frank Porter Graham and I
discussed the project with Livy Luddington and Frank McIver. We then
took pictures and cleared sights for benches.
5-29-93 10:30-2:30 My Dad, David and Samuel Turk, and I went to a
construction site in Chandler's Green Subdivision and loaded the logs
donated for my project by Steve Kelly, a home builder. We got some 14"
to 16" ones for the seats and some 8" ones for the legs.
6-5-93 9:30-1:30 My Dad and I reloaded the logs onto our trailer and
went to Mr. Henry Ingold's saw mill on Butler Road. We loaded the logs
onto the log carrier and then Mr. Ingold sawed them in half. My Dad and
I loaded the cut logs back onto the trailer and took them home. Under
my Dad's supervision I cut the notches in the bottom of the bench seats
and sawed the six legs out of the 8" inch logs.
