Memorandum of Understanding
Concerning the Relationship between
The Chapel of the Cross and Boy Scout Troop 9
May 1997
There has been a continuing relationship between The Chapel of the Cross
and Boy Scout Troop 9 since the Troop was organized through the Laymen's
League of the Parish in 1947. This relationship is formally renewed each
year through the Annual Charter Agreement (attached) between the Parish
and the Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The Annual Charter
assures mutual confidence between the Parish and the Council in the leadership
and conduct of scouting at the Chapel of the Cross.
Troop 9 is an extension of youth ministry of the Chapel of the Cross. It
is included in the budget and annual report of the Parish, and it is represented
on the Youth Ministry Committee.
As chartered sponsoring organization, the Chapel of the Cross appoints
an Institutional Representative, who co-ordinates the operation of Troop
9 in the Parish and represents the institution to the local Scouting District.
The Institutional Representative has a seat on the Youth Ministry Committee.
The Parish will provide adequate facilities for the regular meetings of
Troop 9 on a mutually agreeable schedule to be included in the parish calendar
and co-ordinated with other building use and parish activities. The Troop
will respect the premises of the Chapel of the Cross and uses them responsibly.
Troop 9 is governed by an adult scoutmaster, one or more assistant scoutmasters,
and a parent-based Troop Committee, all of whom are responsible through
the Institutional Representative for the conduct of the scouting program
in accordance with the policies and guidelines of the Boy Scouts of America
and those of the Parish.
The Troop will undertake one or more service projects a year associated
with the Parish.
