Troop Nine Bowline

PARENTS PLEASE NOTE

Dues are Due

No, we don't mean the familiar square dance move known as the dosi-do, but it is a move important to Troop 9 as it goes through the recharter process with the Boy Scouts of America this month. To be members in good standing scouts' dues must be paid. About half the scouts individual dues have been received. If you are among those who have not paid, please get your check for $50 to Lyman or one of the other leaders before the January 18, 1996 Troop Committee meeting. Dues cover the fiscal year from September through August each year. The troop recharter will be the principal business of the January 18 Committee meeting. Remember, all parents are considered to be members of the troop committee, all are encouraged to participate in the meeting.

Merit Badge Work Progresses

Troop 9 scouts are working to complete merit badge requirements for the January 23 Board of Review. Mark your calendars to attend the Court of Honor Awards Ceremony which will take place at The Chapel of the Cross on the following Tuesday, January 30. We look forward to seeing you there.

THE NEWS LETTER OF

TROOP 9

CHAPEL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA

January Challenge

The January camping trip is scheduled for January 27-28, 1996 on the Uwharrie Trail. We will hike the section known as the Birkhead Wilderness. The troop took this section two years ago as a day hike after weather predictions promised overnight lows of 15 degrees F. We are looking forward to a rematch under less adverse conditions.

Think about what you will need for cold weather camping for the trips ahead. Remember the weather can change rapidly in the course of a day. Daytime and night time temperatures will vary widely. Staying dry and staying warm go hand in hand.

Patrol Camping in February

As a leadership exercise, we ask our scouts to schedule a patrol camping trip in February, in lieu of a troop trip. The trip can be local, should be easily rescheduled to avoid bad weather must have suitable adult supervision arranged by the scouts in the patrol, and must be approved by the adult troop staff. If you have questions about your son's 'Patrol Trip,' please call the scoutmaster.

LOOKING AHEAD TO MARCH

Raven Rock State Park,

Lillington NC

Raven Rock State Park provides a low risk site, weather wise, for the March 16 -17 trip. A nice park with a sheltered field as a group camp site, it will provide an interesting weekend with enough time to finish up some advancement.

Happy New Year!
