TROOP 9 NEWSLETTER MAY 1971
Our Scoutmaster, Jim Coke, and assistant SM, Tony Owen spent last week
at Camp Reeves for "Woodbadge", an intensive week of training in scouting
skills. I'm sure all of you share with me in expressing appreciation to
them for spending their vacation time in this way.
BANQUET
Our annual Spring windup pot-luck dinner will be Thursday, June 3, 6 PM
at the American Legion Post. Each family is requested to bring a main dish
and a salad or dessert. Mrs. Spearman (268-30Z7) is coordinating the dinner.
The dinner will be followed by a short Court-of-Honor and a movie of the
year's highlights. The film, produced by our Troop, is rated "GP" (parental
guidance) so be sure not to miss it.
KERR LAKE CAMPING TRIP
The Scouts will be working on camping and water skills June 12-22. We desperately
need help from the dads on this trip if it is to be a success. First, we
need boats- anything from canoes to cabin cruisers. There are three merit
badges that the scouts have expressed an interest in for this outing, canoeing,
sailing, and small water craft. If you have a boat and/or motor that would
be available for the outing, please get in touch with the Scoutmaster.
The second need is for two or three dad's to spend a day and a night with
the Troop, especially Sunday and Monday nights, since our Scoutmaster is
teaching in Summer School and must leave Sunday night. If you can help,
call our Camping Committeeman, Moe Walston (9r2-5215).
SCOUT CAMP
As you probably are aware by now, our Troop will be spending the week of
July 18 at Camp Reeves. Again, we will need several dads to help by spending
at least a day and a night with the Troop. No previous experience necessary.
The scouts will break you in quickly- call Moe Walston if you can help.
Several of the scouts need to earn some money to finance their summer
camp. If you have or know of anyone that has some odd jobs that could use
an extra pair of hands, please give me a call.
