Troop 9
Survival Campout and Court of Honor
November 1 & 2 are the dates for Troop 9' s survival campout. The boys
will campout for a day and a half and live off the land. At the end of
the camp they will probably be pretty hungry.
So we are inviting all parents and families to bring a picnic lunch
about 6:00 and join your hungry son at the camp. A map is included in the
letter -- somewhere. If you can't come please be sure your son i s adopted
by another family so that he won't go hungry.
After the picnic we will have an outdoors campfire and Court of Honor
to present rank awards the boys have earned. We should be finished by 9:00.
Please make plans to attend .

Dues
Dues for 1968-69 come due again. They are the same as last year--$10 per
boy for the school year. This pays for Boy's Li-fe, registration and most
troop activities. If your son wants to pay it in two installments, one
before and one after January 1st, that is fine also.
Scoutmaster's Corner
So far we are off to a fast running start and I am panting along, trying
to keep up. All of our new Patrol Leaders were ambitious enough to attend
extra nights of train-ing to learn how to do their job even better. The
Patrol Leader's Council has outlined a year-long program that will really
keep us busy for the entire year. And we have lots of new boys who want
real SCOUTING from their troop.
I 'm enclosing a parents' job card in the news letter--I think it says
what we hope for as parent support. Dr. Mainwaring has a standing request
in for parents' membership in committee work; let me add my request for
your help by helping your son. I've never known an Eagle Scout whose parents
didn't care.
Senior Patrol Leader's Corner -
I think that this year we could have a tremendous troop with some great
patrols. Some of the boys are new but are well on their way to becoming
good scouts. We lost the Golden Arrow Award, as you very well may know;
but just because we lost it by a 32nd of an inch doesn't mean we aren't
going to try harder for it . The program for this year will be a tremendous
help in winning the Golden Arrow Award this coming spring.
