Minutes from Troop 9 Committee Meeting on November 14, 2006

In Attendance:
Dave Filpus, Wendy Painter, John Risk, Gayle Risk, Gregg Gerdau, Mark Clemens

Meeting called to order by Dave Filpus.

Minutes:  The minutes from the previous meeting are on the website and were accepted.

Treasurer's Report: Lisa Ripperton reported that the current bank balance is $3180.73; dues have been received from Gerdau, Ripperton, Painter and Miles. [Update: Dues have been received from Clemens, Filpus and Hock]

Trips & Activities:  The Uwharrie trip had four adults and four boys. George Painter worked with the boys on Orienteering.
The District Camporee trip had four adults and four boys. The troop placed third overall in Orienteering and first overall in the Camporee patrol competition.
The Wilson trip had three boys, four adults and a dog.

For the weekend of December 15th, the troop has been invited to a Capture the Flag weekend with troops 845 and 45. This will be a two night camp at Camp Chestnut Ridge. All cooking is to be done by adults while the boys have a fun weekend. [Update: the weekend is actually the weekend of December 9th]

For the weekend of December 9th, the troop is planning on march in the Chapel Christmas parade as an advertising and recruiting exercise. The committee authorized to pay the $35 fee. [Update: The change in the campout date caused the troop to cancel this]

Uniforms:  Gregg Gerdau suggested that the troop design a custom unit 9 patch with Chapel Hill NC across the top and "Since 1910" across the bottom to replace the standard unit 9 patch and the 55 year strip. The troop has reached 60 years and needs to change strips anyway. Dave Filpus will look into this.

Weekly Program:  The Scoutmaster is having a monthly planning meeting for his assistant Scoutmasters and other interested adults to plan the month's program. This occurs on the last Monday of each month. The Scoutmaster will then have a Patrol Leader's meeting on the last Tuesday of each month.

Church Construction: tabled for the time being; no news

Recruiting: Gregg has found two dens in Pack 825 that need Den Chiefs. He is trying to match our boys who want to be Den Chiefs with the openings.

Gregg distributed a job description for a membership chairman for the troop. The troop does need one and is soliciting volunteers.

The date has not yet been set for Philip Hock's Eagle Court of Honor; this had been considered for the October 3 Troop Court of Honor but the scheduling did not work out.

The meeting was adjourned.  Next committee meeting will be Tuesday, December 12.
