Minutes from Troop 9 Committee Meeting on September 12, 2006

In Attendance:
Dave Filpus, Martha Avery, Mark Clemens, Gregg Gerdau, Wendy Painter, John Risk, Gayle Risk, Dave Scocca, Wayne Vanderburg

Meeting called to order by Dave Filpus.

Introductions:  Gregg Gerdau was introduced to the committee.

Minutes:  The minutes from the previous meeting are on the website and were accepted.

Treasurer's Report: Dave Filpus reported that the current bank balance is $3274.03.  Annual dues of $60 are due by the next committee meeting (October 10). Checks should be payable to "Troop 9" and given to Lisa Ripperton or Dave Filpus.

Trips & Activities:  The preliminary calendar of trips and activities is on the website.

(1) We do not yet have a firm date and reservation for a week of Scout Camp. We would like to have a firm date by next month to make the necessary site reservation.

(2) Tom Hock & George Painter will be leading the Florida Sea Base trip. There are still open slots.

(3) There is a Uwharrie trip scheduled for this month; the exact date will be set within the next week.

Uniforms:  Dave Scocca noted that the BSA now has zip-off uniform pants/ shorts available. These can be ordered through the Scout Shop or online.

Weekly Program:  Wendy reported that the hope is to have more youth-driven instruction this year.  Wayne will conduct a poll to determine a merit badge or two to work on this fall.  There is a plan to add some out-of-troop-meeting activities to the MB program.

Orange District will be having a Merit Badge College on October 7.  Details are available at the district website.

Church Construction: no further details; fundraising has yet to begin.

Scoutmaster Search:  We have met with Gregg Gerdau; if his son is interested in joining Troop 9, Gregg will be willing to serve as Scoutmaster and we have offered him the position.

Philip Hock completed his Eagle over the summer; a Court of Honor has not yet been scheduled; we may present the Eagle at the October 3 Court of Honor.

There will be a Court of Honor on October 3.

Recruiting:

(1) Webelos will be invited as day visitors to the Camporee in October.

(2) We will have scouts contact some of the Cubmasters to invite Webelos.

(3) Daniel and Bean will be serving as Den Chiefs; the council has monthly training and they will contact packs to find a den to work with.

(4) We will try to schedule an open house for Webelos some time in mid-November or early December.
