Parent’s Committee Meeting
Minutes
Tuesday, May 11, 2004
In attendance: Lisa Ripperton, John Risk, Tom
Hock, Dave Filpus, Luke Cathell, Nancy Barber, Wayne Vanderburg, Wendy
Painter, George Painter, Jim Waters, Sankey Blanton
Prior month minutes: The April 2004 minutes were reviewed and
approved. All prior minutes are posted on the web site. If you have any
changes, please let Dave Filpus know as we do want these notes to be as
accurate as possible. If you e-mail directly to the web site, Dave
Filpus will receive the corrections.
A new recording secretary will be needed for next year. Please
let us know if you are able and willing to help.
Treasurer’s report: We have a current balance of
$4.090.10.
Summer Camp: July 11th - 17th Camp
Cherokee – T shirts for the boys will need to be ordered by June 1st
at $12 each. The tan color seemed to be preferable. Sizes range from
adult small to adult XXXL. Let us know what your scout prefers.
The troop will cover the cost of the adult registration and adult t
shirts. Four adults – Sankey, Wayne, Tom and Dave have volunteered to
be there for the scouts. We are expecting to have between 9 and 11
scouts attending.
Thursday night is parents’ night. In the past, families have brought
food to supplement hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill.
Flag Pole and Flag replacement: Dave Filpus suggested that
after 25 years perhaps recognition of the troop and dedication of new
flags might be appropriate for the troop. Letters can be sent to prior
scouts asking them to share their memories and participate in the
ceremony. Prior members from each decade may be willing to speak to the
group. An organized dinner in either mid December or during the first
few months of 2005 could be planned.
The estimated cost of the flags – both US and NC is several hundred
dollars. We could ask for the flags to be flown over the capitals by
our congressman.
These are all tentative plans for the New Year but your help will be
needed to organize the event.
Patrol trips: May 29th – 30th Bike trip – Blackwood Mountain to
Saralyn. A 36 mile bike trip from Blackwood Mountain to Saralyn near
Pittsboro is planned. Troop families are invited to spend the evening
at the Kaufmanhaus and attend the Court of Honor.
Saturday morning at 9:00 we’ll meet at Blackwood Mountain Road mail
boxes. The bikes and riders will be ferried from Saralyn Road,
Pittsboro to the Kaufmanhaus. Court of Honor is at 8:00 on Saturday
night so class A uniforms will be needed. Canoeing around the Haw River
on Sunday morning
Please bring a spare tire tube, a change of clothes and parents,
realize that the bikes will need to be transported from the Kaufmanhaus
back home.
Uniforms: We need a new chairperson to organize the uniforms.
Thankfully Sarah has a good supply of uniforms and books. We do
appreciate all of Sarah’s time and effort to organize the uniforms and
help our scouts look their best.
Merit badges: Currently Citizenship in the World is almost
completed. Citizenship in the Community requirements will be
substantially completed tonight. If you missed the May 12th trip to the
town council, pleas consider going on May 17th at 7:00.
For next year – the goals are to complete Communications, Citizenship
in the Community for the two new scouts and we have a request for the
Personal Fitness merit badge.
Recruiting: A camp out with Webelos scouts in the fall. John
Risk offered his place. This can be the September troop trip or an
alternative August trip. We should attempt to recruit between 4 and 6
new scouts each year to maintain a good number of scouts in the program.
New Business: no other business
Please join us at the next Parent Meeting on September 13th, 2004.
