Troop 9
Parent’s Committee Meeting
Minutes
Tuesday, March 9, 2004
In attendance: Dave Scocca, Alfred Avery, Lisa Ripperton, John Risk, Tom Hock, Dave Filpus, Luke Cathell, Nancy Barber, Wayne Vanderburg, John Moore, Mary Anne Vanderburg
Prior month minutes: The January 2004 minutes were reviewed and approved. All prior minutes are posted on the web site. If you have any changes, please let Dave Filpus know as we do want these notes to be as accurate as possible. If you e-mail directly to the web site, Dave Filpus will receive the corrections.
Treasurer’s report: We have a current balance of $4.746.51. There are approximately $400 of outstanding checks and additional deposits coming in for summer camp.
New Scouts: Each new scout needs to complete an application/registration form and the class 1 health forms for trips.
Troop trips: March 13th – 14th Uwharrie National Forest. A 9.15 mile back packing trip. Departing at 7:30 on Saturday morning and returning around 3:00 on Sunday. New scouts should check the suggested lists of supplies in their scout books. There is also an extensive list on the web site.
Summer Camp: July 11th - 17th Camp Cherokee - deposits of $30 are due by 3/31. The base cost per scout will be $175 with some of the merit badges adding a few more dollars to the cost. Three adults have committed for the week. Others are welcome to visit.
Medical forms should be completed as well. Adults over the age of 40 need these forms completed yearly. Class 1 and 2 are good for three years.
Uniforms are expected to be worn as we travel to the camp, during evening meals and at the camp fires.
Attendance for the entire week is encouraged as the merit badges activities are through out the week and the scout will not be able to complete the badges during the camp if he is away. Emergencies are always exceptions.
Travel plans – depart Sunday at 12:30 from University Mall at the CCB, return Saturday around 10:30 at the church.
Water activities – the swim test should preferably be completed before camp. Camp Cherokee has offered certification for the troop on April 25th at the Sportsplex between 2 and 4. The camp will be contacted to see if an earlier time can be set. The spring camporee at Camp New Hope is this same weekend.
Uniforms: Uniforms have been purchased for troop inventory. Please let Sarah Mason know if you need anything.
Card games are encouraged at camp. All electronic games and CD players are banned. Likewise during the weekly meetings the electronic games, other devices and cell phones are not allowed.
Recruiting: Our efforts have paid off – the web site, flyers, personnel invitations have succeeded in getting more interest. The troop currently has 13 members. We would like to get the numbers up to 20 but not beyond 30.
Next weeks meeting will be held at the Hock’s house – a GAME NIGHT! Look for an e-mail for directions.
March 20th – ABC sale at the church March 20th between 6:30 and 3:30. Volunteers are needed. Community service hours are given.
New Business: no other business
The next Parent Meeting will take place on April 20th, 2004.
