Troop 9

Parent’s Committee Meeting

Minutes

September 10, 2002

In attendance:  Michael Potter, Wendy Powell, Dave Scocca, David Thurmer, Sarah Mason, Tom Hock, Melanie Maulpin, Sankey Blankin, Richard Davis, Lisa Ripperton, Dave Filpus, Gayle and John Risk, Nancy Barber.

Prior meeting minutes - John Risk asked that we review and send corrections for the prior meeting minutes.  No changes have been noted to date.

Treasurer’s report - Lisa Ripperton was welcomed as the new treasurer for the troop.  A current balance of $3,021.09 was reported.  Current year dues are $60 for each scout.

Uniform coordinator - Sarah Mason offered to help obtain uniforms, encouraging full uniforms for the appropriate occasions.  The Raleigh store and catalogue orders seem to be our only options.  A full uniform consists of shirt, pants (long or short), belt, socks and patches.  Out grown uniforms can be returned to the troop to assist future scouts.

Sara requested additional funding of $500 for the purchase of approximately 4 to 5 uniforms.  The motion passed - 1st Melanie Maupin, 2nd Michael Potter.

Review of the Troop Schedule - Dave Filpus presented the proposed schedule.

The schedule was accepted as is for the moment.

Merit Badges - Wendy Powell asked about people willing to help the merit badges.  A list of merit badges and volunteers was passed around the room.  You don’t need special training to teach the scouts in the troop if your son is a member of that troop.  Volunteers are welcome.  Let us know how you can help.

Looking for a leader to help the senior scouts organize merit badge activities for the younger scouts - a suggestion - the cooking merit badge would be easy to achieve during our campouts.

To receive the district mailings - log onto the Orange district web site and sign up.

New business

High adventure summer trips - Dave Filpus - The council in Raleigh organizes trips to Sea Base, Northern Tier and Philmont each summer.   The leadership comes from the all over the council.  The boys are welcome to pursue these trips.  Nothing is currently planned for Troop 9 during the 2003 summer.

NEXT PARENT MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 8TH, 2002.
