Clothes should accommodate anticipated weather. Assume a minimum range of 20 - 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Think wet !

Fabric recommendations:

Where warmth is an issue, woven synthetic fiber is not recommended for any clothing except the vest and/or coat/shell. Synthetic fleeces are excellent for careless campers. For all other articles 100% cotton, wool or silk is suggested according to the nature of the garment. For socks, use cotton, wool, or both based on past experience. Remember that cotton is comfortable when dry but takes a long time to dry.

Weight Recommendations:

In general, a scout's age and body-weight provide a good rule-of-thumb metric for maximum pack weight.

For a Scout of Age	Maximum Pack to Body-weight Ratio
11	20% (one fifth)
12	25% (one quarter)
13 or older	33% (one third)

For example, an eleven-year old Scout, who weighs 80 pounds, should carry no more than a 16 pound pack.
At twelve and 100 pounds, 25 pounds.
And, at thirteen and 120 pounds, 40 pounds.

The exact whine-point is highly individual. Start at these levels for shorter trips. With experience you may find that heavier or lighter loads are comfortable, based on personal condition. Increase slowly, a couple of pounds at a time.

Spare Clothes

Also, pack a full set of clothes including underwear, socks, shoes, coat, etc. ( really everything), and a towel in a separate bag to leave in the car. Then when you come back to the car drenched, you can get dry and moderately comfortable for the drive home. This counts for a lot on drives of more than ten seconds.
