This is a one day trip Eno River State Park. The trip is an five mile hike on the Cox Mountain Trail, one of the most beautiful mountain trails in the Triangle. The trail passes over Cox Mountain (elevation 688 ft) with a 250 ft ascent. The trail runs along the crest of the mountain and descends into a fairyland of a creek valley. The trail follows the creek to the Eno River, then along the Eno, where an old mill site and dam is visible.
The Cox Mountain Trail is in the far west section of Eno River State Park. There is a map of the park at the park's web site.
