Summer Camp
Camp Cherokee
Boy Scout Troop 9
10-16 July 2005
Description
Summer camp will be a week at the Old North State Council's Camp
Cherokee
near Yanceyville, NC. Program includes merit badge classes in the
aquatics,
ecology, conservation, handicrafts, scoutcraft, shooting sports, and
health
groups, as well as basic scouting work in Tenderfoot through First
Class.
Camping is done in platform mounted wall tents. Food is provided in the
camp dining hall. The camp fee is $202 for the week with the troop.
Attendance
The Scout Camp experience is a full week program. The program session
runs from Sunday afternoon until Friday evening campfire. Absence from
camp during that period should be only for emergency or Scouting
reasons.
Registration
A $50 early fee is due by 30 March, which will get the boy an Early
Bird
patch. The remaining fees of $152 are due by 21 June. Some classes have
a $10 to $20 materials fee; e.g., basketry, leatherwork, photography,
etc. If a boy has financial need, contact the troop committee for
assistance.
Medical Form
A scout medical form is needed with parent's section current within
twelve
months and physician's section current within thirty-six months. Please
turn in the form with the June fee. Please keep the original and
submit
a copy.
Parents at Camp
We will have at least two adults in camp all week from Sunday evening
through Saturday
morning. Parents are welcome to come and help out anytime during the
week.
Thursday night is family night. Dinner that night is a picnic in
the campsite, brought in by families visiting. We will coordinate that
nearer to the time. After the family picnic is the Order of the
Arrow
campfire.
Friday evening has a campfire as entertainment for the whole
camp and visitors. Let the Scoutmaster know when parents may be coming
so that we can coordinate our efforts.
Travel Schedule and Transportation
Departure to camp will be Sunday at 12:30 pm from the Chapel of the
Cross. Departure for home will be Saturday
morning between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. Return will be to the Chapel of the
Cross about 10:30 am.
Take NC-86 north through Hillsborough to Yanceyville. Take US-158
West

and the camp is a mile or so in.
