Campout at Kaufmanhaus, Pittsboro
Boy Scout Troop 9
13-15 December 2002
This campout is at Kaufmanhaus, which is in a private woods just north
of Pittsboro near the Haw River. The owner has offered the woods for the
use of the troop, but there is little there other than a beautiful
hardwood forest. This campout will start developing campsites in the woods
for future use. Activities may include, subject to weather and equipment:

Build a fire ring, benches or other permanent fixtures in the camp sites

A hike down to the Haw River

Cooking activity for the cooking merit badge

Equipment
Bring normal car camping equipment .
Food and Water
Eat before leaving Friday night. The patrols will organize five meals,
breakfast, lunch and dinner Saturday night and breakfast and lunch Sunday.
Water is available at the house, near the campsite.

Driving Directions
Take US-15/501 from Chapel Hill south past the Haw River bridge. About
a mile past the bridge is Russell Chapel Road, which branches right just
before a pottery. Take Russell Chapel Road 1.3 miles to Saralyn Road, which
is a small gravel road to the right. Take Saralyn 0.8 miles to Quartz Hill
Road, a gravel road to the right. Take Quartz Hill a couple of hundred
yards until the road splits. Take the left split and then take the next
right. Kaufmanhaus is at the end of the road. Park in the driveway and
hike uphill a couple of hundred yards to the campsites.
