Crowder's Mountain State Park
Troop 9 Hike and Camp out
10-11 March 2001




Description

The trip is an overnight camp out in the hike-in group campground at Crowder's Mountain State Park. This is an mountain backpacking trip with a moderate backpack to and from the group camp sites. The afternoon activities are day hikes to the summits of two 1600 foot tall mountains in the park.
 
 

Schedule

Depart: 6:00 am, Saturday 10 March 2001, Chapel of the Cross.

Arrive: 10:00 am, Crowder's Mountain State Park. One mile backpack to group camp site.

Activity: Day hikes to climb Crowder Mountain and King's Pinnacle.

Overnight: 10 March 2001, Crowder's Mountain State Park.

Leave: 11:30 am 11 March 2001, one mile backpack to cars. Lunch at cars. Depart by 1 pm.

Pickup: 5 pm 11 March 2001, Chapel of the Cross.
 
 

Personal Equipment

Personal and patrol equipment lists will be reviewed at the meeting before the trip. Scouts new to Troop 9 backpacking will need their backpacks inspected at the meetings before the trip.
 
 

Food and Group Equipment

Food (except Saturday's personal bag lunch) is a patrol responsibility. Menus and food lists will be reviewed by adult and boy staff at the meeting before the trip. Patrol equipment will be checked out at the meeting before the trip.

Three patrol-prepared meals are scheduled. Saturday supper through Sunday lunch. The last meal should require minimal clean up and may be eaten at the take out before departure. Saturday lunch is a bag lunch brought individually.
 
 

Water

Water will be available. As always, start with full canteens.

Messages may be left at 967-8963. The scoutmaster's cell phone is 919-593-0290. However, access will be spotty. Current status is available by calling 967-8963.
 
 

Driving Route

West on I-40 to I-85. South on I-85 to Exit 13 (Edgewood Road) about six miles west of Gastonia (150 miles). Cross over I-85 and turn right onto Highway 29/74. Go two miles and turn left on Sparrows Spring Road and follow the road 2.7 miles into the park.
